Microsoft has suspended several developer accounts linked to prominent open-source projects, including WireGuard, Windscribe, VeraCrypt, and MemTest86. This action prevents maintainers from publishing new versions or critical security updates.
Cause of the Suspension
The lockout is due to missed deadlines for a periodic verification required by the Windows Hardware Compatibility Program. Developers were reportedly given a 30-day window starting in October 2024 to complete the process.
Current Status
According to reports from BleepingComputer, Microsoft is currently in contact with the affected developers to rectify the situation and restore access. For now, users of these security-focused tools may face delays in receiving necessary software patches.
