OpenAI has officially disbanded its Mission Alignment team, a group previously tasked with ensuring Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) remains safe and beneficial for humanity.
According to a report from TechCrunch, the decision does not mean the work has stopped; instead, the remaining team members have been reallocated to other departments within the company to perform similar functions across different projects.
As part of this restructuring, former team lead Josh Achiam has transitioned into a new role as Head Futurist. In this capacity, Achiam will focus on analyzing and predicting how global society will evolve in response to emerging AI technologies.
This move follows a series of internal shifts at OpenAI as the company continues to pivot its focus toward rapid product development and large-scale deployment.
