The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) is investigating Meta due to alleged anticompetitive practices concerning its control over AI on WhatsApp. The inquiry was triggered by a complaint from two companies, Luzia and Zapia, which create chatbots.
These companies argue that Meta's recent changes will effectively limit AI options on WhatsApp, forcing users to rely solely on Meta’s AI and limiting competing solutions. This could threaten user choice and jeopardize the business models of third-party developers.
The new WhatsApp rules are already in effect for new developers and will expand to all developers by January.
