New Android Security Measures
Starting in September, Google is implementing stricter controls for installing unverified applications on Android devices. This update aims to curb cyberattacks that rely on the urgent installation of malicious software.
Key Changes to Sideloading
Users wishing to install apps from outside the Play Store will face a more complex process:
- Hidden Settings: The option to allow unverified apps will be moved deep into the Developer Options.
- Mandatory Delay: A 24-hour waiting period will be required before the permission is granted.
- Device Restart: Users must reboot their devices as part of the verification steps.
Rollout Information
Brazil is among the first countries to receive this security update. By introducing a time delay, Google intends to give users more time to identify potential scams and reduce the effectiveness of high-pressure social engineering tactics.
