Claude has skyrocketed 800% in web traffic share over the past year, according to data from Magnitude. In the same period, Gemini grew 367%, while ChatGPT declined 29%.
These figures measure direct website visits to each AI tool's site, not monthly active users. The distinction matters: much of the actual usage happens through desktop applications and mobile apps, so web traffic alone tells an incomplete story. A user might primarily access ChatGPT through the iOS app or OpenAI's API integrations, for example, which wouldn't register in these metrics.
Still, the dramatic swing in web traffic reflects shifting user interest and suggests Claude has captured meaningful momentum in the competitive AI assistant market. The data hints at changing preferences, though the full picture of each platform's actual usage would require accounting for all access channels.
