Anthropic has updated Claude Code to recognize OpenAI's AGENTS.md file format. Starting with version 2.1.277, if a project doesn't contain a CLAUDE.md file, Claude will automatically search for and use an AGENTS.md file instead. This eliminates the friction of maintaining separate instruction sets for different AI models.
Users can customize this behavior using the "/config" command, giving them control over which configuration file takes precedence. The change simplifies workflows for teams working across multiple AI platforms and reduces redundancy in project documentation.
