Cal.com Shifts Away from Open-Source Development Due to AI Concerns

Scheduling platform Cal.com has announced it is moving away from full open-source development. The decision, confirmed by CEO Bailey Pumfleet, stems from concerns that artificial intelligence can now analyze and exploit open-codebases with unprecedented speed and accuracy.

The Impact of AI on Open Source

According to the company, AI tools have surpassed manual processes in their ability to scan and replicate complex software. To protect its commercial interests, Cal.com will no longer develop its primary product in the open.

Introducing Cal.diy

To support individual developers, the company has launched Cal.diy. This parallel version is licensed under the MIT license but is strictly intended for personal use, allowing users to host their own scheduling tools without commercial exploitation risks.
