Australia's ban on social media access for teenagers under 16 has failed to achieve widespread compliance, with more than 80% of minors continuing to regularly use platforms despite the restriction. The government acknowledges that enforcement remains a significant challenge and did not expect total adherence to the rule.
Officials argue the measure has nonetheless prompted behavioral shifts among young users, even if most teens continue accessing social networks. To strengthen compliance, Australia plans to escalate enforcement efforts and double the fines imposed on companies that fail to assist with rule implementation.
