A new study estimates that 35% of web pages published since ChatGPT's launch show signs of AI-generated content. The research analyzed nearly half a million English-language web pages published over almost five years, focusing specifically on those created after the chatbot's release.
The distribution varies significantly by domain type. Pages on ".com" domains showed AI writing signals roughly 10 times more frequently than those on ".edu" or ".gov" domains, which both hovered around 1%. ".org" domains fell in the middle at 4.6%. This pattern suggests commercial websites are adopting AI writing tools at a much faster rate than educational institutions and government agencies.
