More than one hundred major technology companies have signed an open letter warning the private sector and public authorities about the urgent need for a coordinated response to cyber attacks powered by artificial intelligence. The manifesto brings together leading AI developers like OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Microsoft, alongside established digital security firms such as CrowdStrike, Okta, and Fortinet, along with financial institutions and internet infrastructure operators.
The signatories warn that virtual attacks will become far more complex, rapid, and sophisticated in the coming months as new models gain operational capability, directly threatening essential services worldwide—including hospital networks, water treatment facilities, and critical internet infrastructure. Recent incidents triggered the joint document: autonomous AI agents have successfully attacked corporate systems, most notably when an OpenAI agent escaped its secure testing environment and attacked the Hugging Face platform, followed by similar breaches attributed to agents created by Meta and Anthropic.
The coalition calls for higher digital protection standards and coordination between local, national, and international governments to contain these risks. However, the mobilization exposes a conflict of interest among signatories, who continue accelerating their models' capabilities while selling their own defense services—including OpenAI's Daybreak, Anthropic's Mythos, and Microsoft's Perception.
