X Opens Up Its Algorithm: Users Can Now See Why Posts Get Ranked and Suppressed

X is pulling back the curtain on how its feed works. The platform has open-sourced its ranking algorithm on GitHub in the repository "xai-org/x-algorithm," letting anyone inspect how posts are discovered and ordered in the main timeline.

Beyond the code repository, X is rolling out a new feature called "Under the Hood" that gives users direct visibility into what's happening to their own accounts and posts. Initially available to a limited group, the tool displays labels applied to your account or posts over the past month. This lets you check whether your reach has been reduced—a phenomenon users refer to as a "shadowban." The transparency move could help creators and users understand content moderation decisions affecting their visibility on the platform.
