Windows 10 End of Support: Costs and Challenges

The Windows 10 end of life date is fast approaching on October 14, 2025. Despite this, the transition to Windows 11 is faltering.

Data from Dell and HP indicates only half of active PCs run Windows 11. Moreover, Statcounter reports a rise in Windows 10 usage in August, while Windows 11 saw a slight decline.

Approximately 180 million PCs cannot upgrade to Windows 11.

The Cost of Sticking with Windows 10

Small and medium businesses often face the option of extended support for Windows 10. A Nexthink study predicts the total cost of remaining on Windows 10 could exceed $7 billion in the 12 months post-support.

Adding to the challenge, Nexthink also suggests Windows 11 is less stable than Windows 10, with a higher rate of crashes and failures.
