Wikipedia recently experienced a security incident involving a JavaScript worm that modified approximately 4,000 pages.
How the Attack Occurred
According to reports from BleepingComputer, the breach began on the Russian version of Wikipedia. A malicious script was inadvertently executed by a staff member during a series of tests.
Once active, the worm spread by embedding an image containing malicious code into various pages.

The Wikimedia Foundation has clarified the following details regarding the extent of the damage:
- Affected Area: The incident was contained within the Meta-Wiki.
- Data Security: No personal user data or sensitive information was compromised.
- Damage: Roughly 4,000 pages were altered before the threat was neutralized.
