WhatsApp is preparing significant updates to comply with Brazil's new legislation, known as ECA Digital (Law 15.211/2025). Effective March 17, these changes aim to enhance the protection of children and adolescents on the platform.
Key Changes for Young Users
According to reports from Tecnoblog, users under 18 will face new privacy restrictions:
- Privacy Defaults: The "Everyone" visibility option will be disabled for "Last Seen," "About," and "Links."
- Linked Accounts: The platform is developing a secondary account system that must be linked to a parent or legal guardian's account for oversight.
These measures ensure that minors maintain a higher level of privacy while allowing for adult supervision, aligning the messaging app with the new Brazilian legal requirements for digital safety.
