Starting with the Ubuntu 26.04 LTS release, the popular Linux distribution will increase its minimum hardware requirements. Users will now need 6 GB of RAM to run the system, surpassing the 4 GB requirement currently set for Windows 11.
Why the Change?
According to reports from How-To Geek, this shift isn't because the OS itself has become bloated. Instead, Canonical is adjusting to modern usage patterns, which include:
- Extensive multitasking
- High volumes of open browser tabs
- Heavy reliance on web-based applications
The goal is to ensure a smooth performance standard for contemporary workflows, acknowledging that 4 GB is often no longer sufficient for an optimal computing experience.
