Diogo Almeida, a co-inventor of ChatGPT who left OpenAI in 2024, has launched Jev, a new AI model through his startup TypeSafe AI. Unlike traditional language models that generate natural language text, Jev is designed to communicate directly with machines, returning typed and probabilistic decisions instead of conversational responses.
This architectural difference enables Jev to make decisions up to 200 times faster than conventional models. The technology is currently available through a waitlist, priced at $0.042 per million input tokens, with output tokens provided at no charge. Almeida was responsible for enabling ChatGPT to have conversations and follow instructions—capabilities that made the model accessible and practical for mainstream users. His work on TypeSafe AI represents a shift toward optimizing AI for machine-to-machine interaction rather than human dialogue.
