Stripe is evaluating an acquisition of OpenRouter, an AI model marketplace platform, for approximately $10 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. OpenRouter operates as a unified gateway allowing developers to access models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source alternatives through a single interface.
The two companies already have an established partnership—OpenRouter uses Stripe to process customer payments. A deal of this scale would represent a significant strategic move for Stripe, expanding its footprint beyond payments into the AI infrastructure space where demand from developers continues to accelerate.
