SpaceX is making its proprietary satellite tracking technology, Stargaze, available to all satellite operators worldwide for free. The platform is designed to prevent orbital accidents caused by space debris or uncoordinated satellite maneuvers.
The decision highlights a growing need for orbital safety as space becomes increasingly crowded. A key example of the system's effectiveness occurred late last year when Stargaze successfully prevented a collision between a Starlink satellite and another craft. In that instance, the other operator was performing maneuvers without sharing trajectory data, but SpaceX’s system identified the risk in time to react.
By sharing this tool, SpaceX aims to improve space situational awareness and ensure the long-term sustainability of low Earth orbit operations.
