OpenAI has introduced group chats to its ChatGPT service, allowing users to invite others via a simple link. Up to 20 participants can be added to a group chat, which remains separate from private conversations. Importantly, personal memories are not shared among users, ensuring privacy, and credit usage is individualized for each participant.
Chats in group settings utilize the GPT-5.1 Auto system, which smartly selects the best model based on the prompt provided. There's no subscription required for this new feature, making it accessible to all users. Initially, the rollout is taking place in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan.
