OpenAI has appointed David Vélez, global CEO of Nubank, to its board of directors. The fintech leader joins Robin Vince, CEO of BNY Mellon, in the latest addition to OpenAI's governance team.
Vélez founded Nubank as a response to the complexity of Brazil's traditional banking system. The digital bank has grown to serve more than 135 million customers, establishing itself as a major player in Latin American fintech. His appointment reflects OpenAI's efforts to bring diverse leadership expertise to the table, particularly from leaders who have disrupted legacy industries and scaled global operations.
