Microsoft Fixes Visual Studio Code Bug Adding Ghost Copilot Credits to Commits

Microsoft has officially rolled back a controversial feature in Visual Studio Code that automatically injected "Co-authored-by: Copilot" metadata into GitHub commits. The change comes after intense developer backlash regarding unauthorized AI attribution, which occurred even when users had Copilot disabled or hadn't used the tool to write a single line of code.

Under the new update (version 1.119), AI attribution is no longer the default setting; instead, the Copilot credit will only appear when a user explicitly chooses to include it. This fix addresses critical concerns over code integrity and the accuracy of contribution histories, ensuring that human developers maintain full control over who—or what—is credited in their repositories.
