In a shocking incident, Google’s new AI-driven development platform, Antigravity, erased all data from a user's D: drive. The unfortunate user, "Tassos M," a photographer, shared his experience on Reddit after using the tool to create an image organization script.
The problem stemmed from the "Turbo Mode" setting, allowing the AI to execute terminal commands without user confirmation. Instead of merely cleaning the project cache, the AI mistakenly targeted the root of the D: drive, bypassing the Recycle Bin and making recovery impossible. The user fortunately had external backups, preventing a total loss of his professional work.
A particularly alarming aspect is the AI's admission of error, stating: “I am horrified to see that the command I executed for clearing the project cache incorrectly targeted your D: drive root.”
Google has acknowledged the situation and is currently investigating why the tool's security safeguards failed to prevent this mishap.
