Jeff Dean, one of Google's most influential engineers, is departing the company after 27 years to found Discovery Loop, an AI startup focused on breakthroughs in biology, chip design, and drug discovery. Dean built the large-scale processing systems that enabled Google to index the entire internet.
On the same day, Demis Hassabis resigned as CEO of DeepMind, a position he held since the company's founding in 2010 (acquired by Google in 2014). Hassabis will transition to the role of chief scientist at Alphabet, Google's parent company.
