Google is implementing stricter memory consumption limits for Android applications starting February 2027, targeting improved performance on devices with modest specs as RAM scarcity affects the market.
On devices with 8 GB of RAM, apps will be permitted to use up to 2.25 GB while running in the foreground and 1.5 GB in the background. Phones and tablets with more than 16 GB of RAM are exempt from the new restrictions, meaning high-end devices face no constraints under this policy.
The move reflects Google's effort to balance resource availability across the Android ecosystem, ensuring that mid-range devices can run apps smoothly despite memory pressures in the hardware market.
