Denmark terminated its experiment to replace Microsoft Office with Collabora, an open-source alternative based on LibreOffice, in less than six months. The initiative aimed to reduce government dependence on American technology by transitioning federal employees to the platform.
The effort failed due to persistent technical issues. Government workers reported significant problems with document formatting, including broken text styles, paragraph alignment failures, blank page errors, and malfunctioning change-tracking features. These compatibility and stability problems made the software impractical for daily government operations.
