Education Minister Magnus Heunicke framed the policy as essential to prevent technology from eroding academic skills and students' ability to think independently. By requiring students to articulate and defend their work verbally, the measure creates accountability that makes it harder to rely on AI tools to complete assignments without understanding them.
This approach addresses a growing challenge for educators: while AI writing tools have become increasingly sophisticated, they cannot replicate the real-time critical thinking required to defend ideas under scrutiny. The oral defense requirement forces a meaningful separation between submitting work and demonstrating actual learning.
