Data Center Growth Delays Housing Construction in London

The massive growth of data centers in London is causing significant delays in the construction of new homes. Recent developments in western London have been put on hold due to the electric grid reaching its maximum capacity. Some projects may not receive power connections until 2037, as a supplier works to add 7 GW of capacity.

Currently, there are approximately 447 data centers in the UK, with an expected increase of 100 more in the coming years. Over half of these new centers will be located in London and surrounding areas.

This situation highlights the need for a balanced approach to development in urban areas, as the demand for data storage competes with residential growth.
