Curl Creator Imposes Restrictions on AI-Generated Security Reports

Daniel Stenberg, the creator of the widely-used curl tool, has announced new restrictions on security reports generated by artificial intelligence (AI). According to Stenberg, all security alerts submitted to the HackerOne forum must now explicitly state whether they were created with AI assistance. If AI was used, the submitter must provide “proof of real intelligence” to validate their report. Failure to comply could result in a ban from the platform.

This decision comes in response to a recent incident involving a user named “evilginx,” who submitted a report referencing a nonexistent function in curl and its associated libraries. The erroneous report highlighted the potential risks of relying on AI-generated content without proper verification.

Stenberg’s move underscores the importance of ensuring accuracy and accountability in security reporting, particularly as AI tools become more prevalent. By requiring transparency and evidence of human oversight, he aims to maintain the integrity of curl’s security processes.
