Cloudflare plans to issue TLS certificates resistant to quantum computing attacks beginning in 2027. The company will use an open-source platform to distribute both traditional certificates and post-quantum versions called Merkle Tree Certificates, offering them free to all users while maintaining performance without additional overhead.
TLS is the security protocol powering most internet connections today, particularly HTTPS. As quantum computing advances, cryptographic vulnerabilities in current systems become a genuine concern for long-term security. Cloudflare's move signals the industry's shift toward preparing infrastructure for a post-quantum future.
