AWS Billing Glitch Displays Inflated Charges in Customer Accounts

Amazon Web Services experienced a billing calculation error on Friday that displayed massive overcharges—reaching billions and even trillions of dollars—across customer accounts. The issue stemmed from incorrect unit pricing in the system's calculation engine, which multiplied charges improperly.

The error affected only projected billing estimates, not actual service consumption or final invoices. AWS confirmed that no customer accounts were actually charged these inflated amounts. The company began recalculating affected estimates, with a complete correction expected to take several hours. Customers don't need to take any action while the fix rolls out.
