Gartner Projects AI’s Role in the Future of Technology

At a recent IT symposium, Gartner reinforced that AI is the main strategic technology trend for the coming years. Daryl Plummer, VP Analyst and Chief of Research at Gartner, was categorical: “companies need a dedicated AI leader.”

Accelerated Innovation in 2025

While AI’s importance isn’t new, Gartner highlighted a dramatic shift in pace. The sector has seen more innovations in 2025 than in any previous year.

Key projection: By 2028, over half of all AI models used by companies will be trained or fine-tuned on specialized data for specific industries, functions, or processes.

Impact on Development Teams

Gartner predicts that AI-native development platforms will impact 80% of organizations in how they distribute their teams. By 2030, large software engineering teams will evolve into smaller, more agile units assisted by AI.

The Critical Thinking Challenge

However, Plummer warned about risks, particularly the “reduction of critical thinking skills.”

Companies will need to differentiate between professionals who can think independently and those who rely too heavily on machine-generated output. This trend is expected to reshape recruitment processes.
