China consumed a record 10.4 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity in 2025, the highest annual volume ever by a single country—roughly double the US total.

Key drivers included explosive electric vehicle (EV) adoption, up 48.8% from 2024, and the information transmission, software, and IT sector (including AI data centers), which surged 17%.
